Spicy Strawberry


1.5 c cold green tea
7 frozen strawberries
1 beet - chopped for easier blending
1 T ginger - minced
1t cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg
 
I tried something new today - putting coconut oil in smoothies.  It did not work.  So, I remade it, using a beet as filler instead, and it's awesome.  I will probably try the coconut oil again sometime, but with melted oil.  I have seen it used in raw food books. 
 
The beet is there mostly for filler (I am out of avocados), but also for its cleansing properties.  If you've been feeling a little toxic, as I have the past few days, this is a great smoothie for detoxing, as is anything with beets, or parsley.  Lots of veggies  and herbs have detoxing qualities, in fact, and smoothies are ideal for detoxifying because they require less work to digest.  Stay tuned, and I will post a few smoothies specifically designed to detox over the next couple of days.
