Blue and Green

2 c Milk (I used coconut)
.75 c frozen blueberries
1 avocado
1 large handful fresh spinach

I know that blue and green usually make teal, but in this case they made purple.  Decadent, rich, creamy purple, full of colorful and delcious nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Apricot Kiwi

1.5 c coconut water
.5 c frozen apricot halves
1 frozen kiwi (peeled or un)
2 T almond butter

This smoothie would probably be a much nicer color if you peeled the kiwi, and if my original plan to use an avocado as the thickener had worked out.  It's a sad thing indeed when you reach for an avocado, only to find that it has rotted inside while you weren't looking.  But the almond butter works very well, and meshes nicely with the apricot flavor, and the peel of the kiwi has those lovely omega-3s in it.  So, I'm okay with the browny look, because it's delicious and healthy!

Cherry Raspberry Bliss

1.5 c milk (I used coconut)
.5 c frozen cherries
.5 c raspberries
1 peach

Okay, okay; I know it's been a while.  I know I said I would start back up last Thursday.  But this one is worth the wait.  As soon as I took a sip of it, the first thing I said was, "Holy crap, that's amazing!"  Out loud.  In an empty kitchen.  Because it's amazing.  Holy crap.

You should probably buy already-pitted, already frozen cherries, because I didn't, and it was kind of a pain.  But on the other hand, they were local, and I bought them from a roadside stand, along with the raspberries, the peaches, and the apricots I will use for tomorrow's smoothie.  And roadside stands are amazing.  Holy crap.

Hello, smoothie fans! I know it has been a really long time since I've updated this blog, and I would like to apologize for that. In order to get it up and running again, however, I'm going to have to continue my hiatus, but in a more deliberate manner. I will spend the next couple of weeks working on some back-up recipes so that this won't happen again.  The next update will be on August 13th, two weeks from today, and then the updates will continue from there!

Cinnamon Honey

1.5 c milk (I used almond)
1.5 avocados
1 T cinnamon
1 t nutmeg
1/2 t turmeric
1 T raw honey*

Cinnamon and honey is a delicious and super-healthy combination!  I snuck in a wee bit of turmeric, because it's good for the brain, and has anticancer and immunity benefits as well, and with the cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey, you don't really taste it.  Since all the flavor is coming from spices and the like, the extra avocado is definitely needed to give it body.  And then you have half an avocado left, to drizzle with olive oil and sea salt, which, incidentally, is my favorite breakfast!

*Using pasteurized honey, or a different sweetener will still give you the nice taste, but use raw honey for the health benefits!

Creamy Kiwi

1.5 c almond milk
2 frozen kiwis - peeled or un
5 frozen strawberries

I don't usually peel my kiwis for smoothies, because the skin is super-healthy, and has omega-3s, but since I also usually only put on kiwi in a smoothie, I partially peeled one of them, and the texture is perfect.  I feel like if I hadn't peeled half of a kiwi, it would have been gritty and icky.  Instead, it is creamy and marvelous!

Berry Basil

1.5 c green tea
1/4 c frozen blueberries
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cucumber - peeled and sliced for easier blending
5-6 basil leaves

I think this would be better with an avocado instead of cucumber, but I cut into my only avocado, and immediately sent it to the compost bin.  It was still delicious and herby, but it wasn't weather-appropriate.  This is a summer smoothie, and it is decidedly, and rainily spring here in Portland!
